The Federal Office for Information Technology (BIT) at the Federal Office of Administration provides the federal authorities with client-oriented IT and consultancy services on the introduction and optimization of computerized processes. Apart from that, it offers a comprehensive service and product portfolio in the fields of project management, development of own products and solutions as well as secure, high availability IT operations.
Information technology (IT) is becoming increasingly important in administration. Communication with citizens and businesses as well as communication between public authorities themselves is becoming more and more electronic. One of the BIT’s aims is therefore the consistent professionalisation, standardisation and consolidation of the use of IT in federal administration. In perspective, the BIT relies more and more on developing innovative IT solutions and professionally testing them by its staff. In the framework of the Green IT Strategy, the BIT is working, among others, to continuously reduce the energy consumption of IT operations also in the future through a consistently efficient use of energy.
To offer its services, the BIT, as part of the Federal Office of Administration (BVA), makes also use of the extensive experience of the BVA as a driving force in the areas of administrative modernization and the implementation of modern organizational approaches, thus ensuring a special practical slant of its solutions and services.
With its experienced and motivated team, the BIT is a reliable partner, that also involves and supervises external partners, if desired. In consultancy and software development, for instance, private businesses are often involved in order to optimally combine, for the client, administrative and IT know-how with recent experience and proven solutions from the industry.
About 230 federal institutions already successfully use the products and services of the BIT – from the Federal Chancellery and the federal ministries to numerous large and small public authorities. The extent and quality of the services provided are fixed in the form of individual Service Level Agreements between the BIT and its clients.
