VIS User Group Conference 2014 (Invitation)
In October 2011 the Visa Information System (VIS) was set into operation and introduced a wide range of changes in the context of consular and border affairs and many others. One of the most important innovations that have shaped the national visa and border procedures is the large-scale use of fingerprints, which was the main topic of the VIS User Group Conference in 2012.
Apart from biometrics the VIS introduced various other operational and technical challenges at national level. The need for Member States to share knowledge and their experience, improve cooperation and to identify ways to synchronize and harmonize their approaches in order to support the overall objective has grown.
There are already different bodies and working groups dealing with political aspects or the functioning of the central system. But in terms of operational matters on national level, the national design of the implemented systems and processes, which play a key role when it comes to the effective and efficient functioning of the overall system, a lack of information exchange was identified. The VIS User Group is supposed to fill this gap.
In a 3-day program the following audience and areas of interest shall be addressed:
Day 1 and 2 contain various topics mostly concerning Foreign Affairs (MFA) and Central National Authorities (CNA) in charge of your VIS integration. Border aspects could be touched but are not primarily addressed.
Day 3 is organized in cooperation with the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union Frontex and obviously addresses border matters in the context of the EU VIS.
